Lockhart Raises $3,400 for Make a Wish Foundation

Despite a difficult Fall season that included the disruption of school by Hurricane Sandy, students at Lockhart Elementary School, were able to continue a long running tradition of helping the Make a Wish Foundation.

Students held a walk-athon early in the school year that drew children from kindergarten through sixth grade and raised $3,400 for the charity.

It continued a 27 year tradition of the school raising Money for Make a Wish.

 “We’ve been in this together for many years,” said Patricia Clemency, regional CEO of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. “A lot of families faced challenging times, but the fact that you came through this year speaks to the strength and commitment of the families here.”

Clemency received a check from the Lockhart student Council at Massapequa's annual holiday concert.

The money will go to a 3-year-old girl, who suffers from neoplasms whose dream is to meet her favorite princesses at Walt Disney World.

“Considering the tough climate, people opened their hearts and wallets to make a difference in a child’s life," said Lockhart Principal Stephen Scarallo. "This year’s outcome underscores the strength of this tradition in our school and teaches our children the best possible virtues — resilience, a strong sense of community and an awareness of how they can make a difference in the lives of others.”
