Masapequa Park Man Awarded $1 Million Lottery Prize
Retired NYPD Officer takes second powerball prixe

A Massapequa Park man who played the lottery after spending a morning babysitting his grandchildren, now has $1 million to spoil them with.
Herb Mazzolla, 68, won the Powerball second place prize and received his check Friday from the state lottery.
The retired NYPD officer plays the lottery every week, spending about $5.
“That’s $5 too much for my wife,” he said. But he never spends more than that, saying, "“I figure if you’re gonna win, it’s gonna be with one ticket – you either have it or you don’t.”
He had it when he bought a ticket at the Tutal Convenience store on Broadway in Massapequa for the May 15 drawing.
“I walked into the store and played my usual numbers and then I asked for a Quick Pick ticket to go with it and it’s a good thing I did because not one of my numbers came up!”
THe Quick Pick Ticket was a winner, and he will split the winnings with his wife.
