School Band members,  Timothy Diovanni, Thomas Morse, and Catherine Vedilago and choral members Bailey Hawthorne and Marigrace Maley were chosen from high school musicians in 13 northeastern states and the District of Columbia to  to perform in the 2013 National Association for Music Education eastern district conference.

The conference will be in Hartford in early April.  The five Massapequa students were picked on the basis of their  New York State School Music Association evaluations and teacher recommendations.

“This is an extremely prestigious honor for our students and for our district as it is the first time in Massapequa history that five of our musicians were selected to perform on this level,” said Dr. David Gaines, the Massapequa School District’s curriculum associate for music. “This is a true testament to the quality of our district’s music program, its outstanding teachers and staff, and the caliber of student-instrumentalists we are producing as a result. We couldn’t be more proud of them.”
