Weapon Threat at Unqua School

Police say they search elementary school after phone threat.

Unqua Elementary School initiated lockout procedures Thursday after receiving a phone threat that there was a weapon on school property, police and school officials said.

The threatening call was received in the Unqua office at 11:45 a.m.

An adult male caller said that a backpack containing a weapon was in front of the building, school spokeswoman Felicia Febrizio said.

The building was searched by Nassau County Police, security and administrators and school officials said no weapon was found and the threat was unfounded.

The building was put on lockout during the search at Unqua, which lasted about an hour, and nobody was allowed from the outside.

As a precaution the District searched the grounds of other school buildings, Febrizio said.
