Recycling Plant Fire In Suffolk Deemed Not Suspicious: Police

The fire drew firefighters from eight different departments, the Medford Fire Department said.

MEDFORD, NY — The blaze that broke out at Gershow Recycling in Medford has been deemed not suspicious, Suffolk police said Saturday.

Arson Squad detectives had been investigating the fire, which broke out at the Peconic Avenue location just before 3 p.m. on Thursday, drawing area firefighters.

Medford firefighters saw "the deep-seated fire" had "multiple exposure issues," so mutual aid was quickly requested from all surrounding departments, the Medford Fire Department said in a post on Facebook.

Altogether eight fire departments responded with Medford, including Yaphank, North Patchogue, Hagerman, Holtsville, Farmingville, Selden, and Patchogue. Two ambulance companies, Medford and Shirley, as well as the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshal's office, Suffolk County Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Services, and Metropolitan Transportation Police, responded.

No one was injured.

"With the help of our neighbors, along with the dedicated members of the Medford Fire Department, the incident was placed under control at 5:52 p.m.," the post read.
