4 Injured in Long Island Expressway Crash

A car carrying seven people crashed into the center median Monday afternoon, police say.

MEDFORD, NY – Four people were injured in a crash on the Long Island Expressway Monday afternoon, police said.

The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes near Exit 63 – North Ocean Avenue. According to police, a 67-year-old woman driving a 2004 Mercury Monarch lost control and struck the center median.

There were seven people inside the car. One person was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Three others were transported to Stony Brook with minor injuries.

Two lanes were closed earlier near the scene of the crash, but they have now reopened.
