Suffolk Woman Dead; Passenger Seriously Injured After SUV Crashes On LIE: Police
The Ford Edge she was driving veered off the roadway and struck a guardrail at around 2:40 a.m., Suffolk police said.
ISLANDIA, NY — A woman died and her passenger was seriously injured after the SUV they were in veered off the Long Island Expressway in Islandia and struck a guardrail early on Monday morning, Suffolk police said.
Erika Figueroa was driving a 2010 Ford Edge eastbound on the Long Island Expressway, between exits 58 and 59, with her boyfriend in the front passenger seat, when the SUV left the roadway, struck the center median, spun around, and struck the right guardrail at around 2:40 a.m., according to police.
Figueroa, 26, and her 34-year-old boyfriend, both Medford residents, were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital,

Figueroa was pronounced dead and her boyfriend was treated for his injuries.
The SUV was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the 4th Squad at 631-854-8452.
