Two Families Bilked Of Thousands By Bogus Long Island Landlord: Police

The suspect is believed to be working with another man and a woman, Suffolk police said.

MEDFORD, NY — Two families paid several thousand dollars each March 14 to rent an apartment from a bogus landlord in Medford, Suffolk police said.

The families responded to a listing for an apartment for rent on Sipp Avenue, according to police. Detectives believe the man is working with another man and woman, police said.

The man was driving a dark-colored sedan, according to police.

Detectives released images of what they believe is the sedan, as well as the man. In the security image, the man is wearing a light-colored, long-sleeve t-shirt, dark-colored beanie hat, and pants.

The crime was classified as scheme to defraud, a felony, according to an alert from Suffolk Crime Stoppers.
