Centennial Park Reopens After $5 Million In Upgrades
Renovations include brand new basketball, tennis, handball and pickleball courts.

ROOSEVELT, NY — A beloved part of Roosevelt is getting a welcome back from the community. Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, joined with other local leaders, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday to reopen Centennial Park.
A substantial financial investment led to upgrades to many of the park's existing amenities and added new ones for residents to enjoy.
Among the overhaul for Centennial Park includes a vibrant splash pad, and brand new basketball, tennis, handball and pickleball courts.

Residents will also find a new mini turf for soccer and outdoor fitness stations.
But that's not all awaiting visitors for the new look Centennial Park. You'll find family-friendly picnic area, beautiful new landscaping, plus critical safety improvements.

“Welcome to the brand new Centennial Park in Roosevelt!” Blakeman said. “Nassau County invested close to $5 million in this park, and we’re just blessed that it is now open because this park is all about [the children], the future of America!”
Blakeman thanked the leadership team behind the revitalization project for their hard work and noted that the park improvements were a reflection of his commitment to investing in Nassau County.
Centennial Park is one of the earliest park properties to be owned and operated by the County, having been acquired in 1938. A small additional parcel was added in 1970, the county said on its website. Swings, climbing apparatus and slides are also featured at the park.
Basketball legend Julius Erving ("Doctor J"), who grew up in Roosevelt, honed his craft as a youngster on these courts.
State senator Siela Bynoe, Assemblyman Noah Burroughs, and Nassau County Legislators Debra Mulé and Scott Davis also participated in Monday's ribbon-cutting event, along with children from the community, who will benefit most from the upgrades.
Centennial Park is located off the Southern State Parkway (Exit 21- Nassau Road) on Centennial Avenue.
