Freeport Man Faces Felony Charges After DWAI Crash Hospitalizes 50-Year-Old: PD
The crash occurred near the intersection of Merrick Road and Merrick Avenue, police say.
MERRICK, NY β A Freeport man is facing criminal charges after police say he hit a 50-year-old man and a parked U.S. Postal Service vehicle while driving Friday morning.
According to Nassau County police, the driver was identified as 45-year-old Jeffrey Butt. He was arrested and charged with one count of assault, three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count of driving while ability impaired (DWAI) by drugs, one count of reckless driving and one count of vehicular assault, police said.
Police found Butt in possession of two substances after the crash, one of which they said was believed to be cocaine and the other, which was thought to be oxycodone, police said.

A police investigation concluded that Butt was under the influence of drugs when the crash occurred, police said.
The injured man was not identified; he was hospitalized in stable condition as of Saturday morning, police said. Butt was also treated for minor injuries; he was arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
