Fuschillo Secures State Funding For Merrick Schools

Thirty thousand dollars in state funding will be used to purchase new educational technology.

Senator Charles Fuschillo, R-Merrick, announced that he has secured $30,000 in state funding for the Merrick School District to purchase new educational technology.

The state funds will allow the Merrick School District to purchase and install additional interactive SMART Boards at Birch, Chatterton, and Levy-Lakeside elementary schools.

SMART” Boards are touch sensitive, computerized blackboards that allow teachers to incorporate the Internet, videos, and manipulate text as part of their lessons.

“SMART Boards are valuable tools which make learning more engaging, exciting, and fun for students." Fuschillo said.  "These state funds will enable the Merrick School District to take greater advantage of this interactive educational technology for the benefit of its students and teachers."

Dr. Dominck Palma, superintendent of the Merrick School District, said that he and the district appreciated the funding.

“On behalf of the board of education, administration, faculty, and most importantly, the students  of the Merrick School District, I would like to thank Senator Fuschillo for securing this funding for our schools," he said. "SMART Boards are fantastic devices for displaying concepts visually and motivating students.  These funds will go to great use."
