Jerusalem Avenue Property Seeking Tenants

Tell us what you think should fill the empty space.

A vacant property at 1391 Jerusalem Ave. was the center of controversy this summer after an application was submitted for permits to open a proposed pawn shop in the building.

The application was canceled after members of the North Merrick community spoke out against it.

Months later, the property still remains empty.

Nearby business owners expressed that they would like to see storefronts fill the building soon.

Amarilys Trippett, owner of Point Cutters Salon, said that a restaurant would be a perfect fit.

"There is a lot of food on this strip so a restaurant would be good, but it would have to be something different," she said. "I would like to see a Dominican restaurant open."

Jimmy, an employee at the nearby Frank Wine and Liquors, said that he believes that anything would work in the space.

"We have everything on this strip, so almost anything can open," he said. "As long as it is not another liquor store."
