• $850K Settlement For Hempstead Man Who Had Sewer Grate Dropped On Hand (patch.com) — Merrick residents in the Town of Hempstead may be interested in a newly approved $850,000 settlement for a Hempstead man whose hand was badly injured when a town worker allegedly dropped a sewer grate on it. The payout, to be financed through serial bonds, came alongside other board actions on continuing education rules for town officials and a delayed vote on re-adopting the town’s procurement policy. 
• Bellmore-Merrick Childcare Program to cease operations in North Bellmore schools after 2025-26 school year (liherald.com) — Families in North Merrick should know that the Bellmore-Merrick Childcare Program will stop serving North Bellmore schools after the 2025–26 school year, though it plans to keep operating for North Merrick students. Parents praise the long-running before- and after-school program, and district officials say they’re now searching for a new provider to cover childcare needs starting in 2026–27.
