Kennedy Senior Named NHRP Scholar

Gregory Mora, a senior at Kennedy High School was named a 2013-2014 National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar.

Gregory Mora, a senior atΒ Kennedy High School, was recentlyΒ named a 2013-2014 National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar. He was honored by the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School Board of Education at its meeting on Wednesday.Β 

β€œGregory is a talented individual who possesses many outstanding qualities and serves as an active member of the Kennedy community," Superintendent John DeTommaso said.Β 

Mora is an accomplished musician who plays double bass and is a member of the school’s string ensemble, pit orchestra and jazz band.Β This past summer, he attended the New York State Summer School for the Arts, School of Orchestral Studies.Β 

Mora is a member of the National, Tri-M Music, Spanish and Science honor societies, in addition to being the president of the Key Club and a biology peer tutor.Β He alsoΒ volunteers at the Tackapausha Museum and Preserve and is a New York State Department of Conservation licensed state wildlife rehabilitator.

The National Hispanic Recognition Program was established in 1983 to identify outstanding Hispanic and Latino students. A total of 5,300 students were selected from an applicant pool of more than 259,000 who took the 2012 PSAT/NMSQT/PAA for the award. Those students with GPAs of 3.5 or higher were designated as scholars.Β
