LIRR Massacre Documentary to be Screened at Merrick Cinemas
The 90-minute film called, "Long Island Rail Road Massacre,"will debut on Friday.
A new documentary about the Long Island Rail Road massacre  in which six people were killed and 19 were injured will debut at Merrick Cinemas on Friday.Â
The 90-minute film called, "Long Island Rail Road Massacre," will take viewers back to the night of Dec. 7, 1993 when Colin Ferguson opened fire on a crowded LIRR train.
Next month will make the 20th anniversary of the massacre.
Filmmaker Charlie Minn, who grew up in Manhassett Hills, lost a high school classmate that night.
"It was the worst crime in Long Island history and the worst crime in New York history before 9/11," he said.Â
Minn said that it took him a year to make the film. He said that he wanted to do something for those who died and who were injured on that tragic night.
"I am glad that after 20 years I can do something to honor the victims," he said. "I am eager to get the word out so the victims won't be forgotten. We always tend to glorify the killer, but the victims are the real heroes." Â
