Man Charged For Throwing Device At Woman's Car 18 Months Ago: Police

NORTH MERRICK, NY — A North Merrick man, who was stopped for a traffic violation on Sunday morning, was arrested in connection to igniting an explosive device nearly 18 months ago, police said.

James Luca, 46, is charged with first-degree criminal mischief, third-degree arson and first-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

On Feb. 5, 2023, Luca took the lit explosive device and threw it on the hood of a woman's car, parked in the driveway of her home, police said.

When the device exploded, damage was caused to the hood and windshield.

Luca was expected to be arraigned on Monday.
