Howard Kaden, a Merrick resident of 30 years, will be given the Courage Award during the Voices Against Brain Cancer's Third Annual Join the Voices Run/Walk in Central Park on Saturday.Â
Kaden, 51, was diagnosed with brain cancer in September and said that he has received a great amount of support from the organization and the Bellmore-Merrick community.
"It's been a wonderful outreach of the community since I have been diagnosed," he said. "It's really heartwarming."Â
After Kaden was diagnosed he joined forces with Voices Against Brain Cancer.
"It's been a very enlightening experience and they have been very informative," he said.Â
Voices Against Brain Cancer's mission is to find a cure for brain cancer by "advancing scientific research, increasing awareness within the medical community and supporting patients and their families." Â
Kaden said that he has began treatment, but he feels great.
"I am in a really good place physically and spiritually," he said. "I am going to make sure that I take care of me and support Voices Against Brain Cancer as much as I can."Â
