Merrick School District Budget Vote: What You Need To Know

Here's what you need to know before casting your ballot for the 2023-2024 school year.

MERRICK, NY β€” Merrick residents will head to the polls on Tuesday to cast their ballots for the school budget.

The 2023-2024 Merrick Union Free School District budget is set at $58,922,891, that's an increase of 5.94% from the previous year.

It carries a tax levy increase of 1.52%, which the district said is within the allowable tax levy cap.

The budget features funding for over 1oo universal pre-kindergarten students.

Also on the ballot is Proposition 2, which would allow the district to use $1.3 million in capital reserve funds to replace playgrounds at Birch and Chatterton elementary school. The proposition would also permit replacing the unit ventilators in the Cubs' Cave at Levy Lakeside School.

Voters will also be selecting two Merrick School District Board of Education trustees for three-year terms. The candidates are Jiil Levine and Nicole Venditti.

The election is Tuesday, May 16, from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. at the Levy Lakeside School Administration Center
