Three people escaped an electrical fire on East Drive Monday morning.

According to North Merrick Fire Chief James Rogers, just before 12:30 a.m., the homeowner heard a pop coming from an upstairs bedroom.

"An electrical outlet was sparking, and by the time I got there, the bedroom was on fire," Rogers said.

The North Merrick Fire Department responded with two engines, a ladder truck, heavy rescue and an ambulance. They received mutual aid from the Merrick, North Bellmore, East Meadow and Roosevelt Fire Departments, Rogers added.

The fire took 30 minutes to extinguish, and a total of two bedrooms, a bathroom and a hallway were destroyed. The response was coordinated by Chief Sean Kelleher.

No injuries were reported, Rogers said.
