Hempstead Village Secures $2.5M Economic Development Grant
The grant will help fund water and sewer maintenance in the village.
HEMPSTEAD, NY. — The Village of Hempstead received $2.5 million in Regional Economic Development Council grant funding Tuesday, as Gov. Kathy Hochul announced more than $313 million in grant awards for 381 projects across the state.
The grant will fund water and sewer main upgrades in Hempstead, addressing what the governor’s office called “service deficiencies” and supporting the infrastructure needs of two mixed-use developments planned for the village that will house a combined 342 units.
“I remain grateful for everyone involved in advancing the work of the Regional Economic Development Councils. Their dedication to this ongoing public-private effort has had a transformational impact in every corner of the state,” Hochul said when announcing the grants. “Congratulations to four regions, named the inaugural winners of the ACHIEVE competition. The focused investments laid out in the locally designed plans will create investment opportunities that will help to build an enduring and successful future for all New Yorkers.”
