Officers Hurt, Body-Cam Removed As Nassau Man Resists Arrest: Police

Getho Brevette faces several charges including assault and grand larceny, police said.

MERRICK, NY — A Roosevelt man was arrested and charged with an assault that took place on Sunday evening, police said.

Getho Brevette, 27, fled Planet Fitness on Merrick Road in Merrick after a disturbance, police said.

As he drove away, Brevette was in an accident with his 2015 Hyundai. He left the scene and returned to Planet Fitness, police said.

As officers approached him, Brevette threw an unknown liquid on them. He also forcibly removed an officer's body-worn camera, threw it on the ground and attempted to remove the officer's weapon, authorities said.

Two officers suffered injuries while arresting Brevette, who became violent, police said. The officers were taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Brevette was also brought to a hospital.

He was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, fourth-degree grand larceny, second-degree robbery, third-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, third-degree sexual abuse, forcible touching and leaving the scene of an auto accident.

Brevette was previously arrested on July 20 for a robbery at First Baptist Church of Westbury. He was released on July 21.
