Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued For Nassau County

BREAKING: 70 mph wind gusts are possible.

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 10 p.m. Monday in Nassau County. Wind gusts up to 70 mph, hail the size of ping-pong balls and a couple tornadoes are possible, the National Weather Service says.

"The risk of severe weather should be maximized during the period of peak heating, in the late afternoon and early evening," AccuWeather Meteorologist Adam Sadvary says.

Monday Afternoon- A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. South wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

Monday Night- Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. South wind 9 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Southwest wind around 10 mph.

Tuesday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 76. West wind 6 to 9 mph.

Wednesday- Sunny, with a high near 93. West wind 6 to 11 mph becoming south in the afternoon.

Wednesday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 76.

Thursday- A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 93.
