Smith Leaving MAMS for Principal Post

Edwin Smith is returning to the South Huntington district.

Edwin Smith, assistant principal at Merrick Avenue Middle School, has left his position and will take over as principal of Stimson Middle School in South Huntington come September.

This is Smith's second time at the school, as he formerly serves as dean. He also taught social studies in Harborfields.

His appointment was announced Tuesday night at the South Huntington school board meeting.

"I'm so fortunate and excited to be here. It's a great opportunity," Smith, 34, said Tuesday.

He and his wife, Jill, have three children, ages 5, 3 and 1. He attended SUNY-New Paltz, where he played soccer for four years.
