Town of Hempstead Officials Sworn In for New Terms

Hempstead Town Supervisor KateΒ Murray and Town Clerk Nasrin AhmadΒ was administered the oath of officeΒ at the Town of Hempstead Induction of Officials Ceremony held at theΒ Nathan L. H. Bennett Pavilion in Hempstead on Jan. 2.

In 1998,Β Murray was the first woman elected to represent the 19th District in the State Assembly. She also was the first woman to be elected Town Clerk in 2001. Lastly, in 2003, she was the first woman to be elected Town Supervisor.

"The MurrayΒ administration has also earned a reputation for excellent fiscal management," TOH officials said in a releaseΒ "InΒ fact, she has produced a 2014 budget that reduces town taxes, her third consecutiveΒ tax-cut budget."Β 

Ahmad is a professional with 15 years of experience in town government.

"TownΒ Clerk Ahmad has run a cost-effective and efficient operation in the town clerk’sΒ office," TOH officials said in a release.Β "She is promoting vitally important programs like the life-saving ChildΒ Safety I.D. Program. Ms. Ahmad has been committed to helping Sandy victims, implementing a program that is replacing storm-damaged birth, marriage andΒ other records at no cost."
