1 Arrested After Assault In Catskill Hotel Room: NYSP

Police said the man who was arrested also had an illegal weapon and illegal drugs.

CATSKILL, NY — A Greene County man was accused of having an illegal weapon and breaking into someone's hotel room.

The New York State Police said, around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, troopers were sent to the Catskill Inn on Route 9W in the town of Catskill for a report of an assault involving weapons.

When police got there, they spoke with the victim who said three men entered his room and began punching him and shooting him with a BB gun.

He then said three men fled the area in different directions, one of whom left in a black Ford pickup truck, police said.

The victim was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital by Catskill ambulance.

Authorities said troopers began searching for the suspects and saw a pickup matching the victim's description going into a Cumberland Farms gas station on Main Street in the town of Cairo.

The truck, a 2004 Ford Ranger, was driven by Christopher Stanton, 40, of Greenville, Greene County.

Troopers said, while questioning him, Stanton was found to have crack cocaine and a metal knuckle knife.

He was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and burglary: entering a dwelling causing injury, all felonies.

Stanton was arraigned in the Town of Cairo Court and sent to the Greene County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail, $50,000 bond or $100,000 partially secured bond.

He has a return date for the Catskill Court May 12.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
