1 Killed When Car Rear Ends Tractor-Trailer

Both vehicles were in the same lane when the collision occurred, police said.

MAMAKATING, NY — One person was killed Wednesday in Sullivan County in a two-vehicle crash in the town of Mamakating.

The New York State Police said the incident happened around 6 p.m. Wednesday on Route 17 near Exit 116 in Mamakating.

A preliminary investigation found that a 2019 Nissan, driven by Jason Stanton, 44, of Youngsville, was traveling west on Route 17 when for unknown reasons it struck a 2019 Kenworth tractor-trailer in the rear that was also going west.

Both vehicles were in the right lane when the collision occurred, police said.

Stanton was taken to Garnet Health Medical Center in Orange County where he died of his injuries.

The operator of the tractor-trailer, James Bixby, 51 of Lindley, Steuben County, was not injured.

State police said the investigation is ongoing.
