3-Year-Old Boy Killed When Struck By Garbage Truck In Hudson Valley

A 72-year-old woman was seriously injured in the collision Monday afternoon.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A garbage truck struck two pedestrians in the town of Poughkeepsie Monday killing a 3-year-old boy and seriously injuring a 72-year-old woman.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department said the incident happened shortly after 1 p.m. on Stanley Street at the intersection of Mary Avenue.

Authorities said a 2019 Royal Carting Garbage truck being driven by a 41-year-old man hit the woman and the child in the roadway.

The child died at the scene, police said, and the woman was taken to Westchester Medical Center with serious injuries.

The driver of the garbage truck was not injured.

Police said the names of the victims will not be released to protect their privacy.

The investigation is ongoing and the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department asks anyone who may have witnessed the collision to call the Traffic Enforcement Unit at 845-485-3680.

Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department was assisted at the scene by members of the Arlington Fire Department, Mobile Life Support Services, Lifenet medivac services, New York State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit, MHA Mobile Crisis Team and the Dutchess County Medical Examiner's Office.

Stanley Street and Mary Avenue were closed to all traffic for several hours.
