72-Year-Old Grandmother Dies After Being Struck By Garbage Truck
Her 3-year-old grandson died of his injuries at the scene in the town of Poughkeepsie, police said.
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — The woman who was walking with a 3-year-old on a town of Poughkeepsie road when a garbage truck struck them Monday has died.
The 72-year-old woman was the child's grandmother, Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department officials said.
Her 3-year-old grandson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly after 1 p.m., a Royal Carting garbage truck struck the two pedestrians on Stanley Street at the intersection of Mary Avenue.
Authorities said the garbage truck was being driven by a 41-year-old man when he hit the woman and the child in the roadway.

The woman was taken to Westchester Medical Center with serious injuries but died later in the day.
The driver of the garbage truck was not injured.
Police said the names of the victims will not be released to protect their privacy.
The investigation is ongoing and the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department asks anyone who may have witnessed the collision to call the Traffic Enforcement Unit at 845-485-3680.
Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department was assisted at the scene by members of the Arlington Fire Department, Mobile Life Support Services, Lifenet medivac services, New York State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit, MHA Mobile Crisis Team and the Dutchess County Medical Examiner's Office.
