BB Gun-Toting Suspect Caught After Burger King Holdup: Police

K-9 Duke sniffed out a black BB gun and gloves near the restaurant. Along with additional evidence, cops were able to ID a suspect.

TOWN OF NEW WINDSOR, NY — A suspected robber was left holding the bag after fleeing the scene of a holdup at a fast food restaurant, police said.

The Town of Windsor Police Department says that on March 27, around 6:06 a.m., officers responded to the Burger King located on Windsor Highway after receiving a report of a robbery involving a firearm.

Once on the scene, police spoke to three employees at the restaurant. The manager told officers that she was assaulted by a man who brandished what appeared to be a firearm, and the suspect had fled the scene.

Detectives and a K-9 were requested to the scene. An officer and K-9 Duke were able to track and locate a black BB gun and gloves near the restaurant. Further investigation led to the recovery of more evidence in the area of Highland, police said

A suspect was soon identified by New Windsor detectives.

On Tuesday, New Windsor police arrested 50-year-old Joseph Rico, of Poughkeepsie. He was charged with felony first-degree robbery, felony second-degree assault, felony third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and felony fourth-degree grand larceny.

New Windsor police thanked the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department and the FBI Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force for their assistance in this investigation.
