After breaking the window, the 52-year-old Middletown man pedaled away on a bike, with a cardboard box of over 24 cartons of cigarettes.

WALLKILL NY — A brazen burglary at an Orange County business will mean substantial prison time for a repeat offender .
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that 52-year-old John Redner, of Middletown, was sentenced on Monday to two-and-one-half to five years in prison after previously pleading guilty to third-degree burglary. The conviction is Redner's sixth felony conviction.
According to court documents, on July 12, 2024, shortly after midnight, an employee of a nearby business saw Redner breaking the window of the Dollar General store in the Town of Wallkill. The DA says that Redner climbed through the broken window, took several items and fled on a bicycle.

Hoovler thanked the Town of Wallkill Police Department for their investigation and the arrest of the Redner.
"Repeat offenders, who continue to commit crimes despite escalating consequences, are the true drivers of crime," the district attorney said. "We will not tolerate such recidivism and we will seek incarceratory sentences, where appropriate, for those offenders who refuse to stop committing crimes. We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to curb such crime through proactive policing and dedicated prosecution. I commend the individuals who saw something and said something and the police for their prompt response which ensured this defendant was held to account."
