Drunk Teen Drives 9 Passengers 100 MPH: NYSP

Troopers said two of the nine passengers were traveling in the trunk.

NEW LEBANON, NY — A 16-year-old is facing multiple felony DWI charges after being accused of drunken driving in Columbia County with nine juvenile passengers, two of whom were in the trunk.

The New York State Police said a 16-year-old was arrested Sunday for four counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated, Leandra’s Law, felonies.

Police said, while patrolling Route 20 in the town of New Lebanon, troopers said they saw a 2019 Honda Civic traveling more than 100 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone.

An investigation during the traffic stop determined the driver was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, police said.

Authorities said that there were nine juvenile passengers in the car, four of whom were under 16 years old. Police said two of the passengers were in the trunk.

The driver was issued the appropriate tickets returnable to the Town of New Lebanon Court.

All juveniles were turned over to their responsible guardians.
