Dutchess SPCA Warns Of Sick Puppies Being Sold

The organization said a man and a woman are attempting to sell the dogs in public spaces.

HYDE PARK, NY — The Dutchess County SPCA is warning about a man and a woman who are selling puppies in public spaces in Dutchess and Ulster counties.

Officials of the SPCA said the puppies are ill, and many have died of parvo, which is highly contagious.

The dogs are in need of urgent veterinary care and should not be purchased.

Animal care experts said one should never buy a puppy from a stranger in any public space.

Anyone selling animals this way is not making money because they have invested in the puppies' care.

The pups frequently will have been taken from their mother too soon, often have genetic or contagious conditions and have never received veterinary care.

The cost of care these sick animals will require far outweighs the cheap purchase price, the DCSPCA said.
