EAST FISHKILL, NY — The town of East Fishkill declared a state of emergency due to the severe rains and storms of July 7-10 and has recommended that some residents evacuate.

Massive flooding has occurred washing out roadways and threatening bridges — especially the Carol Drive Bridge.

Town Supervisor Nicholas D’Alessandro told residents of Carol Drive Bridge that there is the possibility that, with the rising flood water of Fishkill Creek, the bridge could be washed out.

In that event, he said, it will be impossible for emergency services to get to you if the need arose.

“We recommend that you evacuate your family until late this evening (Monday) as the flood waters will recede at that point,” D’Alessandro said. “We encourage all families with young children and elderly to please consider evacuating.”

He said only residents with SUVs and trucks can cross the Carol Drive Bridge because the entrance of the bridge is currently flooding.

A truck will be there to take people with low-riding vehicles across the bridge, D’Alessandro said.

The town said people should use caution or seek alternate routes when traveling near or on the following roads:

  • Townsend Road: Closed
  • Phillips Road: Closed
  • Miller Hill/Wonderland: 1 lane closed
  • Carol Drive Bridge: Can be crossed ONLY with trucks or SUVs
