Flood Warnings Issued For Parts Of Hudson Valley

Most portions of the region received 3 or more inches of rain Thursday which set the stage for the possibility of flooding.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — With 2 or more inches of rain falling over the past 24 hours in the Hudson Valley, there should be no surprise that flood conditions are possible.

The National Weather Service issued several flood warnings in the region Friday.

In Wappingers Falls in Dutchess County, there is a flood warning in effect until 6:31 a.m. Saturday.

As of Friday morning, Wappingers Creek was at 8 feet, the stage at which minor flooding and water begins to flood nearby homes. The creek is expected to rise to a crest of 8.3 feet Friday evening and will then fall below flood stage just after midnight.

  • Roundout Creek at Rosendale, until midnight Friday
  • Neversink River above Bridgeville affecting Orange and Sullivan counties, until midnight Friday
  • Delaware River at Callicoon affecting Sullivan County, untl late Friday night
  • Esopus Creek at Mount Marion, until late this afternoon

The forecast for the Poughkeepsie area includes a chance of showers Friday, mainly after midnight

For Saturday, showers are likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 1 p.m.

The weather service said if you encounter flooded roads turn around. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
