Liberty Man Kills Pit Bull Puppy With Rock: PD

Police said the 4-month-old dog's remains were found in a shallow grave.

LIBERTY, NY — A Sullivan County man was arrested after being accused of killing a 4-month-old pit bull.

The Village of Liberty Police Department said Miguel Colon, 34, of Liberty, was arrested Sunday after an investigation into the death of the puppy.

The remains of the dog were found in a shallow grave at a Lake Street location in the village, police said. They were exhumed by officers and turned over the the Town of Liberty dog control officer for a post-mortem necropsy study.

Police said the investigation found that Colon struck the puppy in the head with a large speaker and then with a large rock multiple times causing its death.

He was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony.

Colon was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail.
