Police ID Woman Who Died After Falling Into Fishkill Creek

Authorities said the 42-year-old Beacon resident fell backward while having her picture taken.

BEACON, NY — Police have identified the woman who died after falling into Fishkill Creek Tuesday.

The City of Beacon Police Department said the woman was Sukanya Basu, 42, of Beacon.

Around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, Beacon police, along with fire and emergency medical personnel, were sent to the area of 50 Leonard St. after a report of a woman who had fallen into Fishkill Creek.

Basu was found by City of Beacon Fire Department personnel, but she was unconscious and unresponsive.

Lifesaving efforts were started, authorities said, and she was taken to the hospital where she died of her injuries.
