Traffic Stop On Thruway Leads To Drug Possession Charge: NYSP

Police said they found probable cause to search the man's car.

NEW WINDSOR, NY — A traffic stop on the Thruway led to an accusation of cocaine possession for an upstate man.

The New York State Police said Marco O. Smith, 52, of South Glenns Falls, Saratoga County, was charged Thursday with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony.

Police said troopers stopped a car on Interstate 87 in the town of New Windsor shortly before midnight Thursday for a vehicle and traffic violation.

After interviewing Smith, police said there was probable cause to search his car.

During the search of the vehicle, police said about 14.3 grams of cocaine was found.

Smith was arrested and taken to the Newburgh barracks. After processing he was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of New Windsor Court May 26.
