Ulster Man Drives Drunk, Ends Up In Creek: Sheriff's Office

Besides being charged with misdemeanor DWI, the man was ticketed by the state environmental conservation police.

SAWKILL, NY — A 68-year-old Ulster County man was accused of driving while drunk after his car went into the Sawkill Creek.

The Ulster County Sheriff's Office said the Sawkill resident, whose name was not released, was charged Tuesday with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.

Authorities said, shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday, sheriff's deputies were sent to Sawkill Road near Melissa Road in the town of Kingston for a report of a vehicle in the creek.

Deputies found the car disabled in the Sawkill Creek and helped the driver out.

The investigation the man had been driving while drunk and struck a house on Sawkill Road before the car when off the roadway and into the creek.

The 68-year-old was released with an appearance ticket for the Town of Kingston Court at a later date.

Additional tickets were also issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Police, Ulster Hose Co. #5, Sawkill Fire Department, Ruby Fire Department and Mobile Life Support Services.
