Midtown Fire Kills 1 On Christmas Morning, FDNY Says
A 76-year-old man was killed in the fire that broke out on the 35th floor of the Carnegie Mews.

MIDTOWN, NY — A man was killed in a fire that broke out in a high-rise building in Midtown Christmas morning, the FDNY said.
Authorities got a call for the fire around 7:30 a.m., an FDNY spokesperson told Patch. The blaze was on the 35th floor of the 36-floor building at 56th and Broadway known as Carnegie Mews.
Over 100 firefighters worked for nearly 90 minutes to bring the second-alarm fire under control, according to the FDNY.

One person was confirmed dead in the fire, the FDNY said. The NYPD said the 76-year-old man identified as John Doktor was found unconscious and unresponsive in the bedroom of the apartment and was later pronounced dead.
One firefighter was transported to St. Luke's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by fire marshals.
