2 Arrested In Unrelated Deadly Stabbings Near Penn Station

Two men were arrested Monday in connection with separate murders near Penn Station last month, police said.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Police on Monday announced a pair of arrests for two unrelated, deadly stabbings that happened near Penn Station last month.

The first man was booked just before 3 p.m. Monday: Jamoy Phillip, 26, a Brooklyn resident, was charged with murder in connection with a Nov. 21 stabbing aboard a subway train in Midtown.

Police said that 32-year-old Akeem Loney was sleeping on a northbound 2 train just after midnight on Nov. 21. As it pulled into the 34th Street-Penn Station stop, another man stabbed him in the neck without provocation, police said.

Loney was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Friends later remembered him as a "fun-loving" soccer player who had been trying to get back on his feet after a period of homelessness, the New York Post reported.

Just after Phillip's arrest, police booked another man in connection with the Thanksgiving Day stabbing just outside Penn Station.

Sylvester King, a 33-year-old Long Island resident, is accused of fatally stabbing a 36-year-old man on West 33rd Street and Seventh Avenue around 6 p.m. that day. King has been charged with murder, though his victim has not been publicly identified.
