Bryant Park Announces Free Summer 2019 Movie Screenings
The free screenings include movies such as crime classic "Goodfellas," Tom Hanks' "Big" and Netflix hit "To All The Boys I've Loved Before."

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — With summer approaching New York City, parks and other event spaces are getting ready to hold outdoor film screenings. One of the biggest annual screening series takes place in Midtown's Bryant Park, and the organization that helps maintain the green space recently released its screening lineup for 2019.
This year's Bryant Park Movie Nights series will screen 10 films on a 40-foot-tall high-definition LED screen every Monday from June 10 through Aug. 12, the Bryant Park Corporation announced. The corporation is partnering with streaming giant Netflix and sparkling wine company Chandon to sponsor the series.
Bryant Park Movie Nights has been holding free outdoor film screenings every summer for 27 years, the Bryant Park Corportation said. This year the series will feature two "fan choice" nights where the public will be able to vote on which movie will be screened on June 24 and Aug. 12, event organizers said.

"Bryant Park Movie Nights is a beloved New York City event that attracts audiences from all over the metro area," said Daniel Biederman, Executive Director of Bryant Park Corporation. "We are thrilled to have Netflix on board co-curating the movie line-up as we upgrade the viewing experience with a brand new 40-foot LED screen. Their support ensures this long-standing tradition continues to thrive and reach new generations of movie lovers."
The free screenings generally bring massive crowds to the Bryant Park lawn. The lawn opens at 5 p.m. during the screenings and seating is available on a first-come-first-serve basis. The gravel area surrounding the lawn opens at 4 p.m., so moviegoers have plenty of time to show up early in the hopes of claiming a choice spot on the grass.

The actual screenings don't begin until the sun goes down, usually around 8 or 9 p.m. in the middle of summer, so bringing snacks or dinner to pass the time is recommended. Park security will inspect all bags and backpacks of anyone trying to get on the lawn for a film screening.
