Burglar Climbs Into Midtown Gallery, Steals 'Digital Art': Cops

A scaffolding-scaling burglar broke into a nonprofit Midtown gallery and stole art supplies and a "digital art work," police said.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A man scaled scaffolding to rob a nonprofit art gallery in Midtown, looting art supplies and a "digital art work," according to police.

The burglary happened on Sept. 19 at the EFA Art Studio, a gallery on West 39th Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues that provides affordable space and career exposure for up-and-coming artists.

Around 4:50 a.m. that morning, the unidentified man scaled scaffolding outside the studio and entered through a unlocked second-story window. Once inside, he took the supplies and the unspecified artwork.

This week, police released surveillance images showing the suspect, who appears to be wearing glasses, gloves, a face mask and a beanie on his head.
