Dozens Treated For Carbon Monoxide At Midtown Club, FDNY Says

Firefighters evacuated the Iridium jazz club on Broadway and West 51st and treated 24 people for high carbon monoxide levels.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Dozens of people were treated for high carbon monoxide levels after a Midtown jazz club was evacuated Thursday night, fire officials said.

Twenty-four people had to be treated after the Iridium jazz club on Broadway and West 51st Street was evacuated in the middle of a show, fire officials said. All of the people treated were in stable condition, officials said.

Iridium is located in the basement of the same building that's home to the popular eatery Ellen's Stardust Diner. The restaurant was not affected and did not have to be evacuated, officials said.

The evacuation was caused by a broken beverage machine that was leaking carbon monoxide, NBC 4 reported. Firefighters isolated the leak and shut down the machine, a fire chief told the station.

A Queens man described the sudden evacuation to NBC 4.

"We were at a show, and all of a sudden the firemen walked in and said we had to evacuate for a carbon monoxide situation," Rick Ennis of Queens told the news station. "I felt fine but they took a reading, and I have a monoxide level."
