Group Mugs Man In Midtown Subway Station, Police Say

The man was attacked while trying to swipe through a turnstile at the West 42 Street and Broadway subway station.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — The NYPD is trying to identify a group of men wanted in connection with a violent robbery in a Times Square subway station, police said.

A 36-year-old man was swiping into a turnstile at the West 42 Street and Broadway N/R station on Friday, Nov. 30, when he was surrounded by five unknown men, police said. As the man produced a wallet containing a MetroCard, one of the men punched him in the face, police said.

When the man attempted to flee the station he was followed by the group and pinned against a staircase, police said. The muggers continued to punch the man repeatedly while he was pinned, and one of the attackers flashed a knife, police said.

The man's wallet, containing $700 in cash and three credit cards, was stolen during the mugging, police said. The victim suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention at the scene.

The suspects are described as five men in their 20s. Police released security camera photos of each suspect (seen above).
