Hit-And-Run Truck Driver Kills Pedestrian In Hell's Kitchen: NYPD
A 58-year-old man possibly lying under a box truck near Port Authority was crushed when its driver pulled out Thursday evening, police said.

HELL'S KITCHEN, NY — A man was fatally struck in Hell's Kitchen by a truck driver who fled the scene Thursday evening, according to police.
The crash happened around 8:51 p.m. on West 41st Street near Eighth Avenue, just outside the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
Police investigators believe the victim, a 58-year-old man, was lying down underneath a white box truck parked on the south side of 41st Street, just west of Eighth Avenue. The driver pulled out of the parking spot, running the man over with the truck's left rear tires.

The man, who was found lying on the street with severe head trauma, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released, pending proper family notification.
Police did not know why the man was lying under the truck prior to the crash.

The driver of the 2017 Isuzu box truck had not been arrested as of Friday morning.
Since 2011, there have been at least 30≈ crashes at the same intersection, injuring 37 people — including 11 pedestrians, five cyclists and 21 motorists, according to city data. The city recently redesigned a stretch of Eighth Avenue just south of where Thursday's crash occurred, citing high rates of injury crashes.
