Hudson Yards Subway Station Gains New Entrance

A new entrance at West 35th Street and Hudson Boulevard East will be a boon to 7 train riders, the MTA claims.

HUDSON YARDS, NY — Good news for Hudson Yards residents and commuters: The neighborhood's only subway station just got a new entrance.

Passengers will now be able to enter and exit the 34th Street-Hudson Yards subway station on West 35th Street and Hudson Boulevard East, the MTA announced over Labor Day weekend. The new entrance will feature three escalators and stairs from the street to the mezzanine level and four escalators from the mezzanine level to train platforms.

The new entrance does not feature any elevators, which means it won't be accessible to people in wheelchairs. The station does feature elevator access at the southwest corner of West 34th Street and 10th Avenue.

MTA officials hailed the new entrance as an enhancement to the 7 line, which is the only subway line to offer service west of Ninth Avenue south of 59th Street.

"The extension of the 7 train to Hudson Yards has helped to create a whole new neighborhood with as much office space as Downtown Phoenix or Miami and thousands of new jobs. And we brought this entire project in within the budget set more than 10 years ago," Janno Lieber, Chief Development Officer for the MTA, said in a statement. "The MTA is changing how we do things to deliver projects faster, better and less expensively."

The 34th Street-Hudson Yards subway station opened in 2015 to provide easy access to the neighborhood, which has seen rapid development following a 2005 rezoning. The train station is located near highly-trafficked locations such as the Jacob Javits Convention Center and the High Line.
