Man Burned By Liquid In Random Midtown Attack, Police Say

A shirtless man splashed liquid on a stranger in Midtown last week, giving him second-degree burns on his back, police said.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Police are looking for a man who doused a stranger with an unknown liquid in Midtown last week, giving him second-degree burns, according to authorities.

The random attack happened around 10:01 p.m. on July 5 as the victim, a 57-year-old man, was walking near the southwest corner of West 47th Street and Sixth Avenue.

An unidentified man approached him from behind, threw an unknown liquid on the victim and then fled, police said. No words were exchanged before or during the assault.

Video shows the assailant, a shirtless man, dousing the victim and running in the opposite direction as the victim stumbles and falls to the ground.

The victim took himself to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center the next day, where he was treated for second-degree burns on his back, police said.

Police asked for help finding the suspect, described as a light-skinned adult man, about 5 feet 7 inches stall and 130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing black shorts with no shirt.
