Man From Virginia Tries To Rob Midtown Bank, Police Say

A Virginia man walked into a Midtown bank and claimed he had a bomb in an unsuccessful attempt to make off with cash, police said.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A Virginia man has been arrested days after an attempted bank robbery in Midtown Manhattan, police said.

Russell Lewis, 35, of Colonial Heights, Va., faces attempted robbery charges in connection to Friday's incident.

Before making the arrest, police had said an identified man walked into the Wells Fargo on Madison Avenue near East 50th Street at around 11 a.m. Friday, approached a teller window, and stating that he had a bomb.

He then handed the teller a note demanding cash, according to police. When the teller did not comply, the man fled, police said.

Lewis was arrested shortly after 10 a.m. Monday, according to police. Authorities did not say where he was taken into custody.
