Midtown Offices Still Struggle, Despite Outperforming Nation: Report
While the numbers look better in a national context, Midtown workers are still opting out of coming in.

MIDTOWN, NY — A new report shows that despite New York City leading the nation in office capacity in the "return-to-work" era, there is still a major gulf compared to 2019 office visits, according to a report.
Data analytics firms say that weekday office visits to Midtown are still down nearly 30 percent in the second quarter of 2023 when compared to 2019 levels, according to Commercial Observer.
By comparison, the also-struggling Financial District was only down by 16 percent, the real estate new site wrote.

Overall, New York City is outpacing the country's average rate of office visits, with numbers only down 14 percent from pre-pandemic visits, reports Commercial Observer.
Nationwide, that number is still in the tank by 32 points, the report shows.

In a sign of good news, the firm Placer.ai found that Midtown had 16 percent more office visits this year than the same quarter in 2022.
According to data from Kastle Systems charted by local newsroom THE CITY, New York City's average weekday office occupancy is at 45 percent as of Aug. 9.
Another graph from THE CITY shows that tourism is only down 11 points in July.
