Midtown Restaurant Fire Injures 5, FDNY Says
More than 100 firefighters responded to a two-alarm blaze Wednesday morning at Omar's Mediterranean Cuisine on East 55th Street.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Five people were injured Wednesday during an early-morning fire at a Midtown Manhattan restaurant, an FDNY spokesman said.
The fire broke out shortly after 4:30 a.m. in Omar's Mediterranean Cuisine on East 55th Street between Third and Lexington Avenues, an FDNY spokesman said. The FDNY upgraded its response to a second alarm, meaning 25 units and 106 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene.
Firefighters had the scene under control around 6 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said.

All five people who were hurt during the fire suffered minor injuries and were treated at nearby hospitals, an FDNY spokesman. Five of the people who were injured are civilians and one is a firefighter.
The upper floors of the building house the Islamic Society of Mid Manhattan. The mosque was not affected by the fire, fire officials said.
